An American global pharmaceutical and healthcare corporation with more than $4 billion market cap and present in more than 160 countries with an employee strength of above 30,000 colleagues globally. The company produces and sells a variety of medicines, with more than 1,000 approved therapeutic molecules in its portfolio including branded and complex generics, biosimilars, and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients.

The pharma client was eager to deliver online learning for doctors across the European Union, but one of the major concerns was language barrier. DocMode partnered with the client to create an online learning platform where users can select the language of their choice for live webinar and CME programs.

challenge

Language and cultural diversity are prevalent in European countries. Most HCPs find it more comfortable to speak and listen in their own tongue. Making sure the medical webinar is conducted in those national languages presents a substantial hurdle for pharmaceutical companies doing business in these nations. HCPs from these European Union countries, especially those from the Balkan region, find it challenging to engage in webinars conducted in English by HCPs with US and UK bases. The client’s European division set out to create online webinar training programs for all HCPs that also offered learners real-time medical interpreting in their respective national tongues.

The English-speaking nations of Europe, together with France, Slovenia, Norway, Bosnia, Albania, Denmark, Bulgaria, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Croatia, Romania, Czechoslovakia, and Lithuania, would be the target nations from which the HCPs would come to learn.

They proposed that DocMode provide a new user interface that would support live interpretation and permit the choice of languages. Additionally, the customer wanted to include email automation so that users could sign up and receive emails that were sent automatically, such as thank-you notes, webinar reminders, and details about upcoming webinars. Additionally, they wanted to boost attendance at the live sessions, include polls which can be used during the live session. The client also expected to include certification for HCP learners who completed the entire CME program.

The big concern was adhering to GDPR regulations, therefore the server needed to be in the EU region and marketing automation needed to be deployed with consent from all HCP students.

Throughout the 90-minute webinar, the production studio must manage multiple HCP speakers, 24 interpreters (2 medical interpreters for each language), and other personnel. The production staff was also responsible for handling and sharing with the speaker during the live session any questions that were submitted in various languages.

solution

DocMode was tasked with developing a solution for multilingual webinars, and they succeeded with a thorough plan. With the aid of our expertise in online learning, development, and production management, we created a microsite based on the Moodle LMS. Language selection options were enabled so that students HCP learners can listen in their own language.

To ensure that language obstacles would be removed, DocMode developed a dashboard where translators could register and provide simultaneous interpretations for the live webinar. DocMode also created a variety of emailers and had them translated into several national languages so that users could communicate with doctors in various EU countries.

The team at DocMode also incorporated marketing automation and Google Analytics to provide comprehensive analytics and keep track of the learners’ progress. All this combined resulted in a successful multilingual webinar.

To drive engagement, DocMode also created a live polling mechanism based on the lecture content where the speakers could engage with the viewers and at the same time gauge their knowledge understanding. Additionally, a mechanism for asking questions to the speakers during the session was also created with the aim of building interactivity.

results

More than 8000 Doctor HCPs signed up for the eight-month online CME programme series in the multilingual webinar series. Throughout the whole course, renowned doctors from the US and the UK delivered the lectures, and each webinar session featured more than 24 medical interpreters. Following each webinar programme, 10 sets of MCQs were prepared for certification, along with translation into a few languages to encourage greater participation.
